Whew! After an incredibly eventful month, Maj and I are finally settled into our respective places for a little while – although it will not be for long!
After the draft, our life did not slow down one bit. Samajé left a few days after for his new “home” (hotel) in Ashburn, where the Redskins facility is located. I graduated college a couple days later, although I decided that week that I would not technically graduate. Long story short, I opted to return to the University of Oklahoma next spring to pursue my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, so I may then pursue my Master’s degree in Accounting as well and eventually obtain my CPA. Still, though, I have earned my Finance degree, so I participated in all the graduation festivities that weekend. It was fantastic! Although my love was not able to make it, I was surrounded by an incredible group of some of my most favorite people.
Four days after graduation, Maj and I flew separately into LA for the NFLPA Rookie Premiere event. While Maj “worked” (signing things, attending meetings about marketing opportunities, doing photo shoots, etc.), I was able to take it easy. 😊 We got to stay at the Beverly Hilton, where I spent my days relaxing by the pool, hanging out in the room, and getting my first ever real massage, which was HEAVENLY! At night, we were able to attend some fun events, like the jersey reveal and dinner at STK, pictured below. I also got to meet up with another new NFL girlfriend who is currently living in LA, but will soon be moving to Baltimore where her boyfriend will play for the Ravens. We were introduced by the agent our guys share at the fundraiser we attended in March, and we just happened to end up only 45 minutes apart! How crazy is that?!
Following the event in California, I flew back to Oklahoma, and Maj flew back to D.C. I drove to Texas two days after returning home and got on a plane to D.C. two days after that.
Y’ALL. I fell in love with the area almost immediately! The trees are incredible, and there is greenery everywhere! It is absolutely gorgeous. The first day I was there, we met up with his parents, who were also in town visiting, and went apartment shopping. Since we will be purchasing a house in Oklahoma (very soon!), we decided to rent in Virginia. Of course, living in an apartment is not ideal, as we have a large puppy who is only going to get bigger – but God is good! We were able to find an apartment complex that offered first-floor apartments which each have a balcony that extends into a small grass area. Let me say that again – we found an apartment with a little yard! Not only that, but in the one unit of that specific floor plan the complex had available, the gate to the yard opens up RIGHT TO A DOG PARK. Moose is going to be in heaven!
With the stress of finding a place to live out of the way (along with knowing we found a near-perfect apartment), the next day we drove up to D.C. to be tourists for the day. We visited the White House, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial, which was my personal favorite. We also got to help a couple of New York firefighters hold a 50-pound American flag for a project they are doing. Their goal is to get a picture of that flag at every capital in the country! I was so fascinated by the beautiful architecture and intrigued by the history embedded in the entire city. As it was Memorial Day weekend when we visited, the city was more crowded than I would assume it usually is. Also, to add to the excitement of the day, we ended up getting caught in the pouring rain while walking back to the car. Needless to say, the day was cut fairly short. There are still places I want to go back and visit at a later date, but I saw enough of D.C. to know that we are SO lucky to have landed there!
I returned to Austin from D.C. when the weekend was over, where I will remain for the majority of the rest of the month. During that time, I will be babysitting my little brother and my second family’s two children, who beg me to go to the pool just about every day. 😊 I am taking in this last little bit at home as a “kid” before I begin my new “adult” life. Meanwhile, Samajé is still in Ashburn participating in team activities and training, where he will be for a couple more weeks. When he returns, we will be returning to Oklahoma to make some more major moves – stay tuned! 😉
❤ Meg
