Declaration Day

I have been waiting for this day for a while now. I knew it was coming, but, of course, you never know something is going to happen for sure until it actually happens. Now it’s real: Maj has officially declared for the NFL Draft. (Ahh! I can’t believe I’m saying that!!!)
Since this is a huge milestone for us, I decided I would start a blog to document our adventure. I cannot promise that I will write often, and I have not fully developed a vision for this quite yet. I really just want to have something to look back on as we go through this journey. For this first post, I’ll start with where we are right now.

I do not anticipate many strangers reading this, but for those of you who don’t know Maj or me, I will give you a little background on our story. We officially met during our freshman year of high school. (We actually met the year before that when we were in eighth grade, but Samajé claims that never happened. It did. 😉) We began dating at the beginning of our sophomore year and continued dating through high school and into college. Samajé accepted an athletic scholarship to play football at The University of Oklahoma (my dream school), and I started at Texas A&M University. As the year went on, I realized Texas A&M was not the place for me, and I decided to transfer to OU to experience college in the way I had always dreamed.

Today, we are 21-year-olds who act like we are in our sixties. (We’re old souls.) We just completed the first half of our third year of college. I am a Finance major and will graduate in May 2017; Maj is majoring in Human Relations. He will continue to make progress toward his degree through online courses as he trains for the draft. We have a poodle puppy named Moose, and he is the best dog ever. His awesomeness can probably be attributed to his parents (especially his mom 😉).

Samajé has had an amazing career in football with many accomplishments at The University of Oklahoma, most notably breaking the NCAA single-game rushing record during his freshman year. His college career ended yesterday with an exciting win at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, where he broke Oklahoma’s career rushing record. This morning, he officially announced his intentions to enter the draft, and he will soon be leaving to California to begin training for his career in the NFL.

I am so excited to see where the future will take us and so grateful to be able to do life with my very best friend. I can’t wait to bring you all along on our adventure!

Meg, your awesome Mom babysat for us when she was a teenager and she also worked at our bakery. You come from good, honest, hard working people and I know where your “old soul” comes from. 🙂 I’ve seen your personal accomplishments in academics and in life and I admire the goodness and wholesomeness you are made of. I wish the best of everything to you and your man. You both are deserving of so much good as I have seen the good you’ve given to so many. God bless!

  4. Meg,

Congratulations to you and Samaje as I have followed him since he was at Hendrickson High School where my daughter attended as well. Although Samaje may have selected an agent but our sports marketing firm which is based in Austin/Pflugerville would enjoy talking to him about building his brand with Agency BrandNew Sports and Entertainment Marketing http://www.agencybrandnew.com. We wish you guys the best and I have heard nothing but great things about Samaje on the field and off. Please let us know if you guys would be interested in connecting.
