Life, Stories

Milestones

I must have been out of my mind when I thought we would have plenty of free time this off-season… Boy, was I wrong! Our lives have been off the rails for a few months, but now it is finally time to get back to our “normal.”

As many of you know, Maj and I celebrated our marriage with our “big wedding” two months ago. It was every bit worth the stress it caused. The weekend started with our bachelor/bachelorette parties, which pretty much just included us hanging out with our best friends and family. Maj and the guys went to Top Golf; the girls and I had a fun night at Pinot’s Palette. We hosted our rehearsal dinner the next night at the County Line, which serves some of the best barbecue I have ever had. Needless to say, we like to keep things casual.

We started off the big day with the wedding rehearsal. (I know, it’s tradition for the bride and groom to not see each other on the wedding day, but we obviously do not do things traditionally. 😉) The weather was beautiful, but when it came time for the ceremony, rain began to fall. It stayed at a drizzle as we finished the outdoor ceremony, and we were just able get everyone to the cocktail hour building before the small downpour began. It stopped again, though, right on time for the outdoor dinner. As we wrapped up dinner, it began again, and Maj and I ran for cover. When we walked back outside, there was a rainbow waiting for us. How perfect is that?! We could not be upset about the rain knowing we received such a beautiful symbol because of it.

The rest of the night flew by, but we had a blast. We talked with as many people as we could, took lots of pictures, had our first dance, and had some fun in the photo booth. Here are some pictures from the big day, taken by the amazing Brittany Stover. You can also see the video created by Ladybird Studios here.

After the wedding, we headed off to the happiest place on earth for our spring break/honeymoon trip. We got to spend a full day at each of the Walt Disney World parks – it was amazing! Even though Maj got a bit sick halfway through the trip, we still had so much fun.

Two weeks after we returned to reality, I took my GMAT test for admission to grad school. In one of the more questionable decisions I have made, I did not start studying until the week before the test, so it was a bit stressful. I did pretty well, though, and a couple days after the exam, I was officially accepted into the University of Oklahoma Online Master in Accountancy program, which I will start in the fall!

The weekend after I took the exam, we had some fun attending the OU spring game events in Norman before it came time for Maj to report for spring training. He returned to Virginia, where he finished school online, while I completed my classes in Norman.

This past weekend marked the culmination of all our hard work. Samajé and I both officially completed our undergraduate degrees! Since I celebrated and walked the stage last May when I completed my first major, I did not walk again this year. Instead, we took the opportunity to celebrate Maj. His entire family made the trip to Oklahoma from Alabama and Texas to see him graduate, and we all had the best time together.

Now that all of the craziness is over, I can finally get back to doing what I love – making food! I hope to get back in the swing of things in the next couple of weeks so I can start sharing my favorite recipes again with you all. Yay for summer time!
